Evaluation and Treatment Plans

The first step in treating any athletic or sports injury is being evaluated by one of our physical therapists to see where you are currently at, compared to where you need or want to be. The PT will do things like: ask about your pain level, check your ROM (range of motion), get your medical history and possibly manually move or touch the injured body part in order to get a feeling of what’s going on. After these of bases are covered, together, you will come up with your treatment goals. What does “fully recovered” look like to you? What activities are you missing out on that you weren’t before your injury? These questions help develop the plan of repair and restrengthening for you and the therapist.

Reduce Inflammation & Pain

Reducing inflammation and pain is always our first priority. We’ll start by using ice or heat, electrical muscle stimulation (e-stim) and/or ultrasound therapies. Depending on your pain level the therapist might also try certain hands on therapies with you.

Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy, also known as Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM) is light therapy that uses non-ionizing light sources like lasers or light emitting diodes. The benefits of this laser therapy are often times immediate. With a strong enough laser, physical therapists can reduce inflammation of tissues or muscle in the effected area of and bring immediate pain relief to patients. Laser Therapy Helps: Pain Reduction Anti-Inflammation Accelerated Tissue Repair & Cell Growth Improved Vascular Activity

Retraining & Restrengthening

After pain and inflammation are under control, your Physical Therapist will start working with you to retrain the injured muscles as well as strengthen them. Your treatment will likely include a combination of light strengthening exercises for the injured area and surrounding muscles as well as “manual therapies” like deep tissue massages, manipulations and practicing correct form for your daily activities.
